While working at Naughty Dog on the ICE team, lighting was one of our main focuses. Around this time HDR lighting was just coming into its own, so I took it upon myself to create numerous lightprobes. At that time, the best ones available were the Debevec probes, and we needed some free from copyright issues. These were created during my off time, on a rig I created, and I allowed them to be used for the ICE projects while still maintaining my own copyrights. Since that time I allowed them to be used in numerous software packages and gave them away on my website. I considered this a way to pay back the community that made my career possible. Now there are many other free available probes, and since these are from 2004-2005, their size and quality are lower than most of the ones available today, however they are still free for anyone on my website. |
